PROJECT: BA (Hons) Graphic Design Course Promotional Poster
_
BRIEF: Design a promotional poster to attract new design students from Foundation / BTEC / ND and A-level courses that shows Falmouth is all about good ideas.
_
SOLUTION: My submission uses playful visual language much like Paul Rand's classic Eye-Bee-M rebus to describe the altered visual interpretation that becomes second nature to visual communicators, while emphasising the seaside nature of Falmouth which I deemed an important selling point of the course.

PROJECT: Slightly Different email campaign
_
AGENCY: Slightly Different
_
BRIEF: Create eye catching promotional emails featuring team members in humorous & unexpected ways each month. Promoting what makes 'Slightly Different'...
slightly different. i.e. the team.
_
INVOLVEMENT: Design lead on all newsletters shown.
_
SOLUTION: The newsletters required some serious photo manipulation in a very short space of time & greatly helped increase my skills & techniques in this area.

In 2010 the Slightly Different newsletter won an Interactive Media Associations outstanding achievement award, only one of two awarded in this category
( e-zines/newsletters ), beating stiff competition from 33 entries. IMA spokesman, Aaron Warner said:

“The Outstanding Achievement award is the second highest honour bestowed by the IMA and is an extremely challenging award to win. Your work has excelled in all areas of our judging criteria and represents a very high standard of planning, execution and overall professionalism.”
After the success of the newsletters I proposed we developed the newsletters into a full zine format see 'Slightly Different zine'

PROJECT: Penguin Design Awards 09
_
BRIEF: Design a bold new look for this cult classic in order to bring it to a new generation of readers.
_
SOLUTION: Working with illustrator Joe Ward our submission for the penguin design awards 09. The typographic concept was to describe the Greek influence within the book, using an ancient Greek method of writing called boustrophedon meaning in Greek epigraphy ’as the ox turns’. Boustrophedon describes the script on early Greek inscriptions in which lines of text run alternately from left to right and reversed right to left, as the ox pulls the plough in successive furrows.

The illustration of the snow hare is symbolic of the character Bunny, whose cracked glasses lie unearthed in the snow next to the hare, while a group searches for Bunny in the background. The frozen location was an important aspect within the story that is emphasised through the black and white illustration and icicles on the barcode.

PROJECT: Bright Lights Big City Guide to Bristol
_
BRIEF: Design a conceptual tourist information guide for the city of Bristol.
_
SOLUTION: The guide utilities a gradient theme separated in the middle. Daylife runs in a light > dark gradient while nightlife runs dark > light. Once you reach the center you simply flip the brochure to start a new day.

All points of interest have been positioned in the guide based of the time you are likely to visit them e.g. coffee houses are at the beginning of daylife and night clubs are located at the end of nightlife.

All background imagery was photographed and manipulated by Matt Daniels using both conventional and digital cameras.

PROJECT: Personalised Memories Prints
_
BRIEF: Bear Graphics required a designer experienced in typesetting to assist their busy studio with the design of personalised prints over the lead up to Christmas.
_
ABOUT: Bear Graphics produce unique personalised typographic prints and photography, inspired by life by the sea and travels further afield.

Bear Graphics’ personalised prints capture special places and moments in peoples lives. From the co-ordinates of a special place, the name of your child, the year you were born, or even a list of how the family takes their tea, Bear Graphics create beautiful pieces of art that will always be a reminder of somewhere you’ve been, somewhere you fell in love or somewhere you dream of going.
_
Customer feedback

"Cant praise the service highly enough , the print was just what I wanted and had additions on it that took the designer longer but at no extra cost and made all the difference to me ! He responded to emails quickly and efficiently and the parcel came quickly. Brilliant all round, thank you!"
"Gave this to a dear friend for her wedding. She said it was her favorite gift! The print turned out GORGEOUS, was shipped quickly and I would highly, highly recommend!"
"Product is absolutely brilliant – I had to contact the producer and response was quick and helpful, it arrive on time and looks fab. Only hope my giftee doesn’t find it before Christmas! Took it to get framed and the framer was equally impressed, said they had never seen anything like it before. Highly recommended."
